Theme of the Year: Walking with Jesus Daily

October 4, 2017

Creation, Fall, Crucifixion, Resurrection, Salvation. These fundamentals of the Christian faith are familiar to almost every Christian. Our songs are about them, our sermons teach them and our prayers are filled with references to them. However, when it comes to living life as a Christian everyday, our thoughts, actions and emotions are affected by so much more than what we learn at church on Sunday. While the core tenets of our religion anchor our beliefs and Christianity is not just a religion - it's a life in which the believer has a restored and reconciled relationship with his creator God.

The Apostle Paul describes this new reconciled relationship excitedly, portraying it as a result of Christ's sacrifice: “anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun! And all of this is a gift from God, who brought us back to himself through Christ. For God was in Christ, reconciling the world to himself, no longer counting people’s sins against them. And he gave us this wonderful message of reconciliation” (2 Cor 5:17-19). Crucially, underlying this relationship is the greatest Love - the Love of God who died for us and our response to that incredible love. Thus, we learn to love out of that Love, just as we are taught in 1 John 4:19, our theme verse: "We love because He first loved us".  What wonderful news indeed, that we mere humans are mightily loved by and given the chance to have a real relationship with our Creator God and call Him our Father in heaven!

Thus, rather than stopping short at understanding what Christianity is and professing belief, Walking With Jesus Daily is living as Christians are called to live, in step with the Father, convicted by the Spirit. It is prayer that goes beyond saying grace before meals, it is worship that goes beyond singing songs on Sunday and it is repentance that goes beyond just saying I'm sorry. It is daily prayer and solitude with Jesus, it is hearing His voice and living a life committed to Him and convicted by Him.

This year, the CCCF as a community will seek to help all members understand and experience the Love of God and embark on this exciting journey of Walking With Jesus Daily through our Friday bible studies, our topical blog posts, our CF Monday sessions and our CF Retreat, among many other initiatives.

However, it must be emphasised that Walking With Jesus Daily remains an individual prerogative and an individual call from God to the believer. It is a one to one intimate relationship between you and your Lord Jesus. This year as well as in years past and years to come, Jesus is saying "Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with that person, and they with me" (Rev 3:20). Will you walk with Him today?
