A God Filled Summer

October 17, 2019

The first term of a new academic year is always hectic, but I've been taking the time to reflect and to be grateful for God's provision. I got baptised this June and it's been an interesting journey so far. I'm excited to see what He has planned ahead and pray that I'll continue growing in my faith. I'll be sharing two personal experiences from this past summer which have put me in awe at His generosity and His love.

The first experience that I had relates to the church I went to all summer while I was in London. There were two things which made me feel very happy and blessed. Firstly, I was happy that I felt right at home, even from the very first service I attended in London. I felt so close to God during the duration of the service and left feeling extremely refreshed. I tried a different church the next week but decided that I preferred the first one. It reminded me of everything I missed from Holy Trinity, the church I go to in Cambridge.

Secondly, I managed to bring one of my friends who had stopped believing to come with me to church. After the service ended, my friend reached out to me and asked to come the next week. I was so encouraged by this; it reminded me of 1 Corinthians 3:6-9 – we may be the ones planting and watering the seed but it is God who does the real work in making it grow.

The second experience was back in Malaysia, in the lead up to an important decision that I had to make. I was reminded that I should never have to lean on my own understanding while making important decisions, but to place my faith in God, asking him through prayer (Philippians 4:6-7). Instead of viewing my options from a worldly point of view, I had to make sure to include God in the equation. Which option will help me grow and serve God better? With this in mind, I felt a certain peace settle over me. I continued to pray and eventually, I made a decision which felt right for me. Regardless of whether this was the decision I was supposed to make, I am comforted by the fact that I have God to support me and that I can always rely on Him when all else fails.
